Can A Budget A Future Make?
Are you familiar with Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs? We all have needs some are more basic than others and that is what this pyramid is all about. With a survey of our needs as a household we can tell where we need to spend our household income. "Our Budget"
Today is the day the President of the United States Of America presents his long awaited and much discussed "Budget" to "Win The Future".
There appears to be some major cutting as well as a five year freeze in proposed spending around the issues of community support programs and discretionary spending.
The focus IS rather on education, innovation, specific infistructure and associated support. This focus appears to be laser like in it's approach to getting the country in a firm position to compete with the world going forward.
Watch this seventeen minute video and judge for yourself. Is this what it is going to take to make the cut?
Thanks for watching.
What do you think? Is this the best approach to bring prosperity back to America? Is the "Race To The Top" program a good program or does it just continue to support a broken education system that still educates children for twentieth century jobs that no longer exist? Is there a plan in place to support the education of mature students in order to find jobs to support families in the new economic environment? Is it enough?
How important is the development of infrastructure like high speed Internet and rail as well as other transport systems.
Is this the way to "Win The Future" and give the people "A Brighter Tomorrow"
One last question. Will the world changing events such as Egypt have an effect on your future? How?
Thanks for taking the time to read this post and watch the video! Please feel free to post your thoughts as a comment below.
We will post again soon,

Gulf Crisis Or The Entire Earth?
Welcome back
Crisis in the Gulf: The President of the United States Of America today spoke to the nation.
With the scope of this disaster will the future of our global home (the earth) be changed forever?
If so, how?
The president spoke about God and prayer. There is a scripture that talks about how God will deal with those who willingly ruin His creation , the earth!! It is found at Revelation 11: 15 -18 and states simply.
"15 And the seventh angel blew his trumpet. And loud voices occurred in heaven, saying: “The kingdom of the world did become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he will rule as king forever and ever.”
16 And the twenty-four elders who were seated before God upon their thrones fell upon their faces and worshiped God, 17 saying: “We thank you, Jehovah God, the Almighty, the One who is and who was, because you have taken your great power and begun ruling as king. 18 But the nations became wrathful, and your own wrath came, and the appointed time for the dead to be judged, and to give [their] reward to your slaves the prophets and to the holy ones and to those fearing your name, the small and the great, and to bring to ruin those ruining the earth.”"
Something to think about!!!

Open Source Government... Imagine!!!

Welcome back
Can you imagine a future where all governments are open source? Well I know that could be hard to imagine but Vancouver, Canada appears willing to give it a try.
Here is the opening statement contained in an article on the matter.
"Vancouver, BC's city government posted an agenda for next week's council meeting that outlines its interest in adopting open data, open standards and open source software for all of its data and information resources. Vancouver hopes this new policy will help create new opportunities for its city, recently named 'Best City Archive of the World'."

Communication...Step Number Two

Welcome to part two of the three part series.
Here we look at the future of communications in North America.
The Elements include Audio, Video and Data.
This becomes a rather complex topic which has been commonly referred to as convergence. This fifty five minute lecture by Prof Braunstine talks about a number of the issues that have been and continue to be a challenge to communication convergence in North America.
We are now seeing the advance of IP (internet protocal) technology which is changing the way all three of these elements are being delivered from source to end user.
As well we are seeing the distribution of broadband services into the rural areas becoming a high priority of National governments as well as those of States and provinces.
Therefore the next five to ten years may well provide communication opportunities heretofore unheard of in remote communities at costs that will be affordable to all people.
As an example I have included a link to the folowing webcast.
Boosting Productivity Through Virtual Collaboration

This along with the smart power grid mentioned in the last post will provide two of the three main pillars of our future economic well being.
In our next post we will talk about transportation.
